Armor of God

Many are familiar with the passage in Ephesians 6:10-17 talking about putting on the 'full armor of God.'  I have discovered recently other places where we are encouraged to put on armor and got curious about all the places where we are instructed to put on defensive protection in the bible.

Ephesians 6:10-17
belt of truth
breastplate of righteousness
shoe from gospel of peace
shield of faith
helmet of salvation
Sword of the spirit is the word of God

Isaiah 11:5
righteousness will be his belt
faithfulness his sash.

Isaiah 59:17
He put on righteousness as his breastplate
the helmet of salvation on his head
he put on the garments of vengeance
wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
putting on faith and love as a breastplate
the hope of salvation as a helmet.

In several places God is referred to as our shield.

Three times the helmet of salvation is mentioned. This protects your head. Your knowledge. thoughts. the working of your body. your memories. actions. feelings. Salvation is the key to everything.

A breastplate of righteousness is mentioned twice - righteousness is being without sin or guilt. Faith and Love are also equated with a breastplate. This protects your heart. Your true essence.

Missing either the helmet or the breastplate can be fatal.  But don't discount the other pieces of equipment. Especially the shield of faith that is also referred to as God many times.  I picture that as something to hide behind when you can do nothing else. Hope it holds up.
