Genesis 10:1-5, 1 Chronicles 1:5-7, Genesis 10:6-20, 1 Chronicles 1:8-16, Genesis 10:21-11:26, 1 Chronicles 1:17-27

Lists of many names...I love genealogy.  The names are fun. They bounce and roll in your mouth.  Try saying them out loud - phonetically.  It is interesting that  the descendants of only 2 of Japheth's sons were listed: Gomer (not Pyle!) and Javan. And several of his descendants settled different areas with different languages.  Wonder how the language grew and if it still exists in some form today.

ok - say Nimrod without sniggering. I dare you! :-)  And to think Nimrod was a 'mighty hunter before the LORD.'  I'd think twice before calling anyone a nimrod in the future - it is not the cutdown you thought it was.

Genesis 11 is the tower of babel story.  God scattered the people and confused the languages.  Did this happen after Japheth's folks moved?  Wonder what God thinks of the internet and the way everyone can communicate in this age.  Are we creating another type of tower of babel?

What caused Shem's descendants to decrease in number of years they lived? From 500 down to 119.  Was God purposely decreasing the lifepsan like he stated earlier or did other things cause it?

Reading Chronicles interspersed in this is very repetitive, but gives you more chances to play with the names.  Has anyone you know named one of their children Shem or Ham? Just curious.
