Know God - Proverbs 19:18

(from Pastor)
Where there is no vision,
the people perish.
Proverbs 19 :18

This is a classic scripture that people use to teach leadership. "The first thing you must do is have a vision!" they say. And ... "If you don't have a vision for where you're going, you're not likely to get there."

Do you see the profound problem in that logic? Usually this points to a human leader and says, "It's up to you, George."

How many of us lead, work, serve, and live like it's all up to us. What I've grown to hear in this passage is that if the leader hasn't seen God (vision) or hasn't heard a clear message from a prophet (another kind of vision), then we may embark on grand adventures, but they're likely to be as successful as Custer's last stand.

(And by the way, if a prophet isn't around, you may just be able see God in a faithful reading of the scriptures.)

In Christ's Love,
General George P. Custer
(Custer's middle initial was "A" for "Armstrong,
mine is "P" for "Please, Lord, slow MY plans down enough to hear YOUR plans.")
----------------------------------------------------------
No vision = no plans. This can = no hope or, maybe worse, chaos.  No vision can lead you blindly stumbling along.  But, like Pastor said, the leader isn't the only one with visions.  We are not in this alone.  1+God is a majority - and we KNOW who has the clear vision on that team.

The hard part. Listening. Patiently listening.
