1 Chronicles 27:1-29:22, 1 Kings 1:1-27

More assignments. This time for the: army, officers, and overseers.

27:23-24 David did not take the number of the men twenty years old or less, because the LORD had promised to make Israel as numerous as the stars in the sky. Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. Wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.
Again, Israel did not obey.

David made plans for the temple. Although Solomon was to build it.
28:9-10 "...acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
10 ... Be strong and do the work.".

This holds true for us today ... serve with wholehearted devotion, a willing mind, seek God, be strong, do the work.  Do we do this? Again David told Solomon:
"28:20 Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished."

Jesus told us in John 2:21 that his body was the temple of the Lord.  In 1 Corinthians 3 we are told that WE are the temple.  So, if that is the case, then by no means is the work for the service of the temple of the LORD finished.

David died - after ruling for 80 years. But before he died, there was more drama from his sons.  One of his sons decided that he was going to be king ... David caught wind of it - in his bed - and made Solomon king on the spot.  Solomon's first duty was to spare the life of his brother who tried to take the throne.   He spared him - thus shedding no blood.
