Knowing God - John 15:1

(from Pastor)
"My Father is the husbandman."
John 15:1

Most of us would prefer a more modern translation: "My Father is ... the gardener ... the farmer ... the vinedresser." So what is a "husbandman" anyway?

As you might guess, this 14th century word is related to the term, "husbandry" which is the art and science of farming, especially breeding. Rather than calling God just an average farmer, "husbandman" acknowledges the heavenly artistry that has brought together two distinct life forms -- God and man!

Here's how it is designed to work ... In order to fully live, the first thing that must happen is that the branch -- i.e. you and me -- must die. We must cut ourselves off from every twisted vine and priority that we thought contained life. Then we must reattach ourselves to the true vine.

Once we make that first step to abide in Christ, God the Husbandman completes the miracle. He joyfully draws us into his life.

In Christ's Love,
a boysenberry who wants to be
grafted onto God's grape vine
---------------------------------------------------------
Reminds me of an illustration I read recently about winter trees.  Winter is the time to remove the dead branches. Trim the tree.  I know nothing about grafting except what I was taught *many* years ago in biology class ... but I do know that all life forms need some sort of nutrition to live.  As Christians, we get our from Christ - the true vine.  But to receive the nutrition, we need to be tightly attached to the vine. Bound to it.
