Convo with Pastor - James 3:2-10

Too many people say that "they try and try, but can't hear God."
For the next several days, I want to share with you a technique
I've learned from T. W. Hunt in "The Disciples Prayer Life."
It's a three-step process: 1) read a passage of scripture,
2) ask "What God is saying to me?" (each day I'll give fewer hints),
3) pray, "What I am saying to God?" (reflecting what God said to you).

SCRIPTURE PASSAGE
See also Proverbs 13:3
Those who control their tongue will have a long life.
But opening your mouth can ruin everything.

2 ... Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we guide their whole bodies. 4 Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 For every species of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, 8 but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. --- James 3:2-10

WHAT GOD IS SAYING TO ME?
  1. VERSE 2 - You will make slips of the tongue because you are not perfect.
  2. VERSE 3-5a - Your tongue is small, but it can control where you go if you aren't careful.
  3. VERSE 5b -6 - Be careful - your tongue can quickly run out of control and get you and others into overwhelming trouble.
  4. VERSE 7-8 - The tongue is a source of evil.
  5. VERSE 9-10 - However it doesn't have to be! You can use it to worship and praise just as easily as curse ... it is your choice.
WHAT I AM SAYING TO GOD?
  1. Thank you for sending your son to us who is perfect and example how we should use our tongue.
  2. Please use my tongue to guide me and direct me ... also to help guide others with the words I use.
  3. forgive me for the times my tongue has run out of control and gotten me into trouble. The sarcasm and cynicism roll so easily at times.
  4. Help me to not have it be a source of evil, but a source of praise.
  5. I want to praise you and worship you.
