Knowing God - John 5:19
(from Pastor)
nothing by ourselves? only what we see the father doing? that implies that we can see what the father is actually doing. there are times he seems so distant. hidden. how can we watch. follow. obey? how do we gain strength from that? how do we get some of his power?
Jesus said ...
"I tell you the truth,
the Son can do nothing by himself;
he can do only what
he sees his Father doing"
John 5:19
Independence. Isn’t that THE sign of strength and character?
In today’s verse, Jesus shows us that strength is just the opposite of what we assume.
Strength isn’t operating on our own – which means I’m limited by what me, myself, and I can accomplish. Rather, strength comes from doing what the Father does. It is watching, following, obeying ... and then borrowing a little of the power that spins the planets and breathes eternal life.
I don’t know about you, but I could use a little more of that power.
In Christ’s Love,
a guy who wants to be a copycat
(doing a little more of what God does)
