Knowing God - Joshua 3:13

(from pastor)

As soon as the soles of the feet of the priests ...
shall rest in the waters ... the waters ... shall be cut off
Joshua 3:13
In a sense, the Exodus started with a parting of the Red Sea waters. Having seen such a display of God's power, you would have thought it would have been a triumphant journey. Hunger, fear, worry, mistrust, and sin turned a forty-day hike into decades of wandering.
Finally -- after forty years of futility -- Israel stood on the edge of triumph. But to get to the promised land, what did they have to do? Pass through the waters again! In fact, God promised to show his power again as they embarked on their journey, saying essentially, "When the priests step into the water, I will cause the Jordan River to stop flowing and pile up in a heap!"
Israel's journey started -- and restarted -- with water. So does ours. Baptism! Israel's journey followed this pattern -- out of bondage, through the waters, and into the promised land. That's the journey that God wants for you too -- out of bondage (to sin), through the waters (of baptism), and into the promised land (heaven).
In Christ's Love,
a guy who wants wander less
and get wet more

I really don't have much to say about this.  Baptism is the true start of the journey.  It can be parents baptizing their child as a step of faith and a commitment to raising their child to know Christ, or someone older getting baptized - again as a step of faith, a symbol of their commitment to Christ.  And the means doesn't matter!!!  Now, who's ready for the promised land?
