Knowing God - Psalm 74:16
(from pastor)
I decided to look up other translations. Puts an interesting twist on the verses.
The day is yours, the night is also yours.
You have prepared the light and the sun.
Psalm 74:16
I heard someone say once that for years he worked "the night shift."
What he meant is that when he turned out the lights, the worries of the day seemed to grow with the shadows of the night.
Have you ever done that? Tossed and turned all night, worrying about some person or some situation. Many of us would be rich if we were paid for those night shift hours.
I was shocked when this commentator said that this night work and evening worry were the height of arrogance. It was a failure to trust in the God who created sun and moon, mountains and streams. It was a failure to believe that God could run this world for eight hours without me.
Ouch.
Guilty.
Many of us give him the day -- often from the first crackling of our eyelids in morn. "The night is also yours" is a needed prayer too ... and a statement of new faith.
In Christ's Love,
a guy who wants to be an owl
(big eyes at night, looking for God)
-----------------------------------------------I decided to look up other translations. Puts an interesting twist on the verses.
The day is yours, the night is also yours/you own the day, you own the night. You have prepared/established/made/created the light and the sun. [put the sun and moon in its place.]
Psalm 74:16
Psalm 74:16
I like the image of God placing the sun and moon in its place. I can see it ... no. a little to the left. down a little. there. that's perfect. He owns the day and night. They are his. We are his.
